15th Lok Sabha Election- The game is about to begin

Finally, the game is about to begin. This is a series that take place once in every four year. Friends, I am not talking about any other cricket test match or one-day series that many of us might be thinking about. Neither it is any of any hockey test match series, this is Lok Sabha Election. A game that will be played on the world’s largest democratic nation. The dates for the Loksabha elections 2009 have been announced. The poll will be taking place in 5 phases.

Between April 16 and May 13 the world’s most heavily populated democracy will begin the process of electing its next government.So, the days are not far when we all will see and watch big and huge election campaign...celebrities promoting the campaigns and as usual politicians making false promises or commitments. We will have the manifestos of various parties making their appearance soon - and vanishing from memory with equal speed.

We all have been watching these acts after every four years. Sometimes we enjoy it, sometimes we laugh and sometimes we just forget. “Election comes and goes, How does it matters to me....they all are shits”, says Mr.Ajay, senior executive from one of the leading MNCs. “I am 23 years old, want to vote this time but not feel like voting because all politicians are same”says Arun, a final year MBA student from DU. Well, we all can hear these types of comments. But the question that needs to rise is how long we will just keep on saying all these crap statements? We all are part of this world’s largest democracy and need to understand our rights. We all have to play our roles very with full responsibilities, and casting vote is one of the prime responsibilities of every citizen who is above 18 years.

We must not forget that – we have the right to vote and elect right candidate. The revolution has not taken place with one single person. History has always been created when people irrespective of religion and caste comes together for one cause. A cause to bring change. A cause to bring or create new revolution. This election lets be more united and promise ourselves to vote and utilize our prime right. Besides this, I would also like to share some of the top anxieties of Middle India that today’s politician need to understand so that they can develop confidence among people.

Here are my thoughts:

•An assurance that liberalisation will continue, because that is what creates more jobs and opportunities. Over the past few years, liberalisation has come to a halt.
•An assurance that people will have more control of their own lives, without the spectre of a government bearing down on them. This means decisions made on merit, and elimination of unnecessary rules and regulations which hobble us and our enterprise.
•One thing that can make us more competitive in the global economy, it is education. India needs the education sector to be opened up.
•In last past few years, the feeling of security has slowly ebbed away with multiple acts of terrorism coming to our doorstep. As I have mentioned in my previous blogs, today India needs to feel safe again.
